The 2005 Dodge Ram is an example of all that is good today in the full size pickup truck market. All manufacturers have models that are very respectable both inside and out like the Chevy Silverado, Ford F150, and Toyota Tundra. The Ram was the first pickup truck to be upgraded to its current modern form in the early 2000′s. Since then it has set many standards the other companies have tried to imitate. The only area where the Ran really is deficient is fuel economy, with nearly every other truck beating it. For hauling and towing the Ram still remains one of the toughest competitors.
Trim packages available for the 20005 Dodge Ram include the same ones that have been offered in recent years. The cabins sizes offered include just a regular cab, and a quad cab option. Interior cabin quality is very nice, being made of high grade materials and solidly constructed. As far as roominess is concerned the Ram has ample leg and upper body space for both the driver and front passenger in a regular cab. There is also enough room behind the front seats to place some tools or other equipment. Those who need to transport more passengers and tools will have to consider one of the quad cabs that seat 4 passengers and have independent opening rear doors.
ST, SLT, and Laramie are the standard trim packages. ST models are basic will AC, manual door locks, and vinyl upholstery. SLT models come with cloth upholstery, upgraded interior accents, leather wrapped steering wheels, CD players, wider tires, and more audio speakers. The Laramie is the high-end package which comes with dual zone climate controls, premium stereos, 17 inch aluminum wheels, full leather upholstery, and expanded center consoles. SRT-10 models have been designed for performance with street tuned suspension systems, and a plethora of other additional features. The SRT-10 is the fastest pickup truck offered on the market today.
Engines offered include the 3.7 liter V6, 4.7 liter V8, 5.7 liter V8, and a special V10 Viper engine is available on SRT-10 performance models. Most of the basic work trucks will be equipped with either the smaller V6 (more common on 2 wheel drive models) or the smallest 4.7 liter V8. Mid level and high end models will more than likely be found with the larger V8 engine. All SRT-10 models come with the Viper engine as standard equipment.
Other notable features of these workhorses is the specially reinforced frames that make the truck exponentially stronger than any previous model. That means that towing and hauling capabilities are better than ever. The more powerful of engine utilized, the more hauling can be done, no longer is the frame a limiting factor in any regard. Special noise reduction material has also been employed, making this one of the quietest cabins on any modern truck. The only area where the 2005 Dodge Ram is behind the competition s fuel economy, where comparable models are nearly 1-2 mpg off all competitors.
Overall the Ram is a very capable work truck that actually has set the standard for what a modern truck should be capable of. Consumers who need optimal performance in areas like towing and hauling seriously need to consider the Ram, while those looking for something a little less powerful and fuel efficient may want to look elsewhere.
